How to Reach NAOJ
(To NAOJ HP)
From Tokyo-Narita International Airport
If you arrive at Tokyo-Narita International Airport,
there are a number of ways to come to NAOJ.
The distance from Tokyo-Narita airport to Tokyo downdtown is about 60 km.
NAOJ is in Mitaka, a suburb of Tokyo.
The distance from Tokyo downtown is about 25 km.
- By Airport Bus
If you have large luggages, please choose this option.
However, unfortunately the number of busses are limited.
Take Airport Limousine Bus from the airport to
Chofu
(not Kofu) station.
It costs JYen3,300 (April 2014).
Chofu station is about 2 km far from the observatory.
Timetable is available from

'Kichijoji' station (bus fare = JYen 3,100) is another alternative to Chofu.
- Chofu Station to the Observatory
Airport bus stops at the southern bus pool of Chofu Station.
Go to the north bus pool across Chofu Keio-Line, which is now
running underground.
By Bus
From the stand #11, Odakyu buses to Musashi-sakai Station (#91) and
to Mitaka Station (#51) leave.
From the stand #12, Keio bus to Musashi-koganei Station (#91) leaves.
Get off at "Tenmondai-mae" bus stop.
It costs JYen 220.
By Taxi
Or take a taxi from Chofu Station.
It will bring you to us in 10-15 min from Chofu.
It costs JYen 1,200 - 2,000.
- By Train
- Airport to Shinjuku Station
More frequent service is available by train.
JR (Japan Railway) East provides Narita Express (N'EX) between Tokyo and
Narita airport.
N'EX usually runs every one hour, and every 30 minutes at peak hours.

Upon arrival at Narita airport, go downstairs to B1F and you will find Narita
Airport Station (Terminal 1) or Airport Terminal 2 Station (Terminal 2).
Buy a ticket to Musashi-Sakai station and a seat reservation ticket
of N'EX to Shinjuku Station ( JYen 3440 ).
Take a Narita Express going to Shinjuku.
And change train at Shinjuku Station.
- Transfer to Chuo-line
Transfer at Shinjuku Station
N'EX train arrives at track #5 or 6 of Shinjuku station (see a map
of Shinjuku station ).
Go to track #11 or 12 (Chuo Line for Takao).
Take Chuo-line rapid service (orange-body train)
and get off at Musasshi-Sakai station.
Transfer at Tokyo Station
If you take N'EX not going to Shinjuku station,
change train at Tokyo Station (see a map
of Tokyo station).
You will arrive at a platform of basement level 5 of Tokyo station.
Go to track #1 or 2 (Chuo Line for Takao).
Take Chuo-line rapid service (orange-body train)
and get off at Musasshi-Sakai station.
- Musashi-Sakai JR station to NAOJ
Go downstairs to the South exit of the station.
You will find a bus pool (there is another bus pool
next to the north exit).
From number 3 bus stand, bus to Komae station (#91)
departs.
Get off at `Tenmon-dai-mae' bus stop. (`Tenmon-dai-ura' is a different
bus stop where you will find a back-gate of the observatory.)
Please remember that `Tenmon-dai' means observatory in Japanese.
All anouncement is made in Japanese.
However, almost all the buses display the name of the next bus stop
near the driver.
It costs JYen 220 (Apirl 2014).
Of course, we can use a taxi from Musashi-Sakai station to the observatory.
From Tokyo-Haneda Airport
We have another international airport in Tokyo metropolis area, Tokyo-Haneda Airport.
If you come to Tokyo by a domestic flight, you will arrive at Tokyo-Haneda Airport.
- By Airport Bus
Airtport bus is available to Chofu station.
Bus runs approximately every one hour.
Timetable is available from

Please purchase a ticket at the Tour Desk (Limousine Bus Ticket Counter)
in the arrival lobby in advance and wait at the bus stop.
The bus from Haneda Airport leaves
from the bus stand # 3 of the bus loading area of international terminal
(go downstairs to the ground level from the level 2 arrival lobby)
and from the bus stand # 5 outside the level 1 arrival lobby of
domestic terminals 1 and 2.
It costs JYen1,440 for one-way trip.
Take a taxi or a bus from Chofu station as previously shown.
- By Train
Since in Tokyo area we have much developed train and metro system,
there are several ways to reach our observatory by train.
Here one example is shown.
You can check
the web of the airport.
- From Haneda to Shinagawa Station by Keikyu Line
Keikyu Railway serves train between Haneda Airport and Shinagawa
Station.
Upon arrival at the international terminal you will find
the Keikyu Line station and Tokyo Monorail station on the same level
of arrival lobby.
If you arrive at the domestic terminals, go downstairs to B1F of arrival lobby.
And you will find Keikyu Line station and Tokyo Monorail station.
At the desk of Keikyu Line, purchase a through-ticket to use Keikyu
Line and JR East line to Musashi-Sakai Station.
It costs JYen 880.
- From Shinagawa Station to Shinjuku Station by Yamanote-Line JR East
After getting off at Shinagawa Station from Keikyu Line,
change train to JR East Yamanote-Line for Shinjuku.
Go upstairs and go to the connection gate to JR line.
Insert your ticket to a ticket-collecting machine at this gate,
your ticket will be checked and returned.
Go downstairs to track #2 Yamanote-Line for Shinjuku.
Get off at Shinjuku Station and transfer to Chuo-Line for Takao.
Go to track #11 or 12 (Chuo Line for Takao).
- From Shinjuku to Observatory
Take Chuo-line rapid service (orange-body train)
and get off at Musasshi-Sakai station.
Follow the previous instruction from Shinjuku to Observatory.
